Since 1 June 2019 Badaling has run full-network real-name reservation ticketing with single-day visitor-total control, and its daily best-carrying capacity is 65,000. That cap is the reason a walk-up is refused once the day fills — it is Badaling's own number, not a generic rule.

Visitors may book online up to seven days in advance. This window is stated for Badaling specifically on the Beijing municipal tourism portal, and corroborated by the China Daily government portal for the same 1 June 2019 rule.

Three official booking channels — and nothing else

The portal names Badaling's own channels: the official online ticketing system ticket.badaling.cn, the official website www.badaling.cn, and the Badaling official WeChat public account. Book on these rather than a reseller, so the reservation sits on the document you will carry.

A foreign passport books, then redeems a printed ticket at the gate

Individual and group tourists can buy admission tickets seven days in advance with a valid ID or passport. But a foreign visitor does not scan straight in like a Chinese-ID holder: they redeem a printed electronic ticket at the comprehensive service window near the gate using the online reservation certificate, and enter the Great Wall with that printed ticket. Missing this step lands a passport holder in the wrong queue on a capped day.

The scenic area set up 12 comprehensive service windows and 3 outdoor guide desks to handle on-site ticket exchange and make-up-ticket business. These are where a foreign visitor redeems the printed ticket, and the fallback if a booking needs fixing on arrival.
