Does Google Maps work well for China travel?

The rule that governs international networking protects your communications — and lists no services

Article 7 states that users’ freedom and privacy of communication are protected by law, and that no unit or individual may use international networking to infringe them in violation of law. That is the framework a visitor is actually inside. What the same regulation does not contain, anywhere in its twenty-five articles, is a list of reachable or unreachable services — because it administers security protection, not a catalogue.

Since no official page publishes service reachability, an answer that guarantees a particular map app will load is guessing. The preparation that survives being wrong is the one that does not depend on the answer: offline map data, the hotel address written in Chinese, and a station name you can show someone.
