Wenchuan is on the main route from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou National Park. Regular buses from Chengdu (Chadianzi Bus Station) take about 2–3 hours. The new expressway has significantly reduced travel time. Local taxis and hired vans (¥60) are the best way to reach outlying villages. Yellow public buses serve some routes within the county.
Qiang cuisine is the highlight: cured ham (腊肉), wild vegetables, and small potatoes cooked in their skins dipped in chilli and salt. Look for 'ciba' — Qiang potato dumplings in soup — at the tiny restaurant near the junction of the two main shopping streets (yellow sign: 洋芋糍粑). Budget meals ¥15–30.
