Tengchong Tuofeng Airport (about 10 km south of city center) has frequent flights from Kunming and connections to Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou, and other major cities. Long-distance buses run from Tengchong's main bus station on Rehai Road to Kunming, Baoshan, Dali, and Lijiang. Taxis and Didi are the best way to get around the city and to outlying scenic areas.
Tengchong's food reflects its border location and diverse ethnic mix. Specialties include Tengchong hot pot with locally sourced ingredients, pineapple rice (a Dai minority dish), chili chicken with local herbs, and pork with pickled vegetables. The city also has strong Burmese food influences from its long trading history with Myanmar.
