Located on the 57th floor of Antai Plaza in Donggang District, this hotel's rooftop infinity pool offers a panoramic view over the entire city and coastline. Non-guests can access the pool area with a day pass. The building is one of Rizhao's tallest and the view at sunset is exceptional.

Why start here

Rizhao (日照, 'Sunshine') is one of Shandong's most accessible coastal cities, sitting on the Yellow Sea with long sandy beaches, a thriving seafood culture, and a compact urban core that's easy to navigate. It's less crowded than Qingdao but shares the same coastline energy — ideal for travelers who want a genuine Chinese beach city without the tourist premium.

First-day shape

Start at Wanpingkou Scenic Area for a morning beach walk and fresh seafood breakfast at one of the waterfront stalls. Head to Dongyi Town (东夷小镇) for lunch — the cultural street blends Dongyi heritage architecture with local food vendors. Afternoon: explore the Shanhaitian Tourism Resort coastline. Evening: dinner at Rizhao Xiangyangtun BBQ Seafood Hot Pot for the full local experience, then a nightcap at Penicillin bar on Dongyan Street.

What makes it tricky

Rizhao has two main rail stations: Rizhao Station (city center) and Rizhao West Station (high-speed, slightly further out). High-speed trains connect to Qingdao (~1.5 hrs), Jinan, and beyond. City buses and taxis are the primary local transport; no metro. Arriving by high-speed rail at West Station, take bus C318 (5 stops) to reach the city center near the municipal government.

Transport note

Within the city, buses and taxis are the main options — no metro exists. Key bus routes: C318 from Rizhao West Station to city center (5 stops); K13 from West Station to the university town area (13 stops). Taxis are affordable and widely available. For intercity travel, high-speed rail from Rizhao West Station connects to Qingdao (~1.5 hrs), making a day trip feasible. The city is also reachable by bus from Lianyungang to the south.

Food note

Rizhao's food scene is dominated by Yellow Sea seafood — fresh crab, clams, sea urchin, and fish are available at every price point. Budget standouts include Rizhao Xiangyangtun BBQ Seafood Hot Pot (¥94/person, open until 2am) and Must-Steam Seafood at Wanpingkou (¥110, 24hr). For traditional Shandong flavors, try Eight Great Bowls of Shandong (山东八大碗) in the Shanhaitian resort area. Local snacks worth seeking out: salted egg yolk rice balls from Just Right Rice Balls (正好饭团, ¥14), and clay pot yellow beef hot pot (泥锅黄牛肉火锅, ¥82). Rizhao is also known as a green tea producing area — local tea is sold throughout the city.
