Why start here
Guyuan sits at the southern edge of the Loess Plateau, where the Liupan Mountains rise above the ancient Silk Road corridor. This is a city of layered history: the strategic Xiaohe Castle that guarded the Silk Road, the stunning Buddhist grottoes of Xumishan, and the lush Liupan Mountain National Forest Park. As the birthplace of China's red tourism (Mao Zedong's famous poem about Liupan Mountain), it also carries revolutionary heritage. The region's cool climate, forested mountains, and rich Buddhist art make it a surprising gem in western China.
