Transport note

Buses from Kangding depart at 06:30 (¥150, ~11 hours). Buses also connect to Dege (¥80, 6 hr), Yushu (¥130, 10 hr), and Luhuo (¥45, 3 hr). The bus station is in the center of town. Within town, taxis cost no more than ¥6 anywhere. Bike rental available for exploring outskirts. The road from Kangding is mostly sealed but bumpy — avoid rear seats on smaller buses.

Food note

Local Tibetan cuisine is the highlight: yak meat hotpot, tsampa (roasted barley flour with butter tea), traditional Tibetan desserts made with yak butter and dried fruits, and butter tea (Po Cha). Danba spiced pork shank and Luding walnuts are regional specialties. Budget meals at local restaurants ¥20–40; mid-range guesthouses with meals ¥80–150/night.
