Why start here
Korla (库尔勒), the capital of Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, is one of Xinjiang's most livable cities — clean, green, and well-planned. Situated on the northern edge of the Taklamakan Desert with the Tian Shan mountains to the north, it serves as the primary gateway to southern and eastern Xinjiang. The city is known for its fragrant pears and the scenic Kongque (Peacock) River that runs through it.
